Episode 2 - Dodger Stadium or Angel Stadium?

From the perspective of a non-sports fan, I am fresh back from my visit to Angels Stadium yesterday in their game against the Texas Rangers and Dodger Stadium last month in their game against the New York Mets. If you only had, One Day in SoCal, which should you visit?

If you only had one day in so cal and you 15 00:01:15.280 --> 00:01:21.159 wanted to attend a major league baseball game, which would you choose? Dodgers 16 00:01:21.359 --> 00:01:25.159 or angels? Now I know there are the padres down in San Diego, 17 00:01:25.519 --> 00:01:27.519 but I'll have to get to them at a later episode, because we all 18 00:01:27.560 --> 00:01:32.760 know of that famous rivalry between blue and red. So let me get this 19 00:01:32.840 --> 00:01:36.920 disclaimer, this little disclaimer, at right now. I am not the biggest 20 00:01:36.920 --> 00:01:41.560 sports fan, and that's saying it very, very tactfully. Now, I 21 00:01:41.599 --> 00:01:44.439 know I've lost half my ten listeners right there, but I think it's important 22 00:01:44.439 --> 00:01:47.519 to be honest. I only know who Babe Ruth is because I watched the 23 00:01:47.560 --> 00:01:51.200 sand a loot a dozen times, and I only know about the dodgers winning 24 00:01:51.239 --> 00:01:56.040 the world series because my phone alerted me ten times over to quote breaking news 25 00:01:56.159 --> 00:01:59.480 via the various news apps I have installed, not to mention the following on 26 00:01:59.560 --> 00:02:04.480 writing streets. But hear me out, hear me out. Even though I 27 00:02:04.560 --> 00:02:07.520 was definitely one of those second last kids picked for the teams during Pe, 28 00:02:07.680 --> 00:02:13.400 I have made a commitment recently to try every single major league sporting event at 29 00:02:13.439 --> 00:02:20.240 least once, and here I am starting my commitment with baseball. Now, 30 00:02:20.280 --> 00:02:23.360 on top of that, there is a silver lining here. I am approaching 31 00:02:23.400 --> 00:02:25.719 sports from an unbiased point of view. I will tell you what I think 32 00:02:25.719 --> 00:02:30.400 about these two majors teams from an outsider's perspective. Because, let's face it, 33 00:02:30.520 --> 00:02:34.960 if you live and breathe dodger blue twenty four hours a day, seven 34 00:02:35.039 --> 00:02:38.560 days a week, you're obviously gonna attend a dodger game, no introduction needed. 35 00:02:38.120 --> 00:02:42.280 And if you are the biggest angel fan on either side of the Santa 36 00:02:42.280 --> 00:02:46.639 Anna, already on your two play through of angels in the Outfield, you're 37 00:02:46.639 --> 00:02:51.240 definitely headed for Anaheim. But what if you're neither? What if your home 38 00:02:51.280 --> 00:02:53.639 team, or your favorite team, is the Boston Red Sox and you are 39 00:02:53.719 --> 00:02:58.360 visiting so call and want to attend a major sporting event? Or what if 40 00:02:58.360 --> 00:03:01.120 you're like me, not particularly interested sports, but still want to try something 41 00:03:01.159 --> 00:03:06.520 new and are open to having your mind change about sports? Spoil alert. 42 00:03:06.800 --> 00:03:10.599 My mind was indeed changed. Or if you're headed for Disneyland and want to 43 00:03:10.639 --> 00:03:16.479 attend a sporting event before you leave they're luckily find yourself at Angel Stadium. 44 00:03:16.639 --> 00:03:20.560 If you're checking out the Hollywood scene, that is, the walk of fame, 45 00:03:20.919 --> 00:03:23.759 universal studios, Beverly Hills feel most likely. I want to be battling 46 00:03:23.800 --> 00:03:29.800 the hordes. You know, of other cars trying to park at dodger stadium. 47 00:03:29.879 --> 00:03:32.159 No matter what the case is, I hope you enjoy this episode of 48 00:03:32.240 --> 00:03:38.680 one day in so cal and maybe get a new perspective. So what I'm 49 00:03:38.680 --> 00:03:42.919 gonna do here is compared dodger stadium that I attended last month with their game 50 00:03:42.919 --> 00:03:46.479 against the New York mets, to Angel Stadium I attended yesterday in their game 51 00:03:46.599 --> 00:03:50.719 against the Texas Rangers, and doing so, we'll compare the rivalry that is 52 00:03:51.039 --> 00:03:54.080 red and blue right here in so cal. On a very last note, 53 00:03:54.120 --> 00:03:58.719 at the close of every podcast I say one thing back the blue when I 54 00:03:58.759 --> 00:04:01.840 say that I am not offering support for the dodgers, it has an entirely 55 00:04:01.840 --> 00:04:06.800 different meaning altogether. With that said, let's head down to Anaheim and Angel 56 00:04:06.879 --> 00:04:15.120 Stadium. Audio warning. Turned down the audio. If you're on headphones, 57 00:04:15.279 --> 00:05:23.800 it's about to get loud. That was a little bit of a Soundbot I 58 00:05:23.839 --> 00:05:27.759 took over at an Angel Stadium yesterday. Um. So, speaking of Angel 59 00:05:27.759 --> 00:05:31.160 Stadium, Angel Stadium has been in its present location in Anaheim, California, 60 00:05:31.199 --> 00:05:36.480 since nineteen sixty six. Between nineteen eighty and it was also home to the 61 00:05:36.480 --> 00:05:41.600 Los Angeles Rams before they scurried off to St Louis. Originally it was known 62 00:05:41.639 --> 00:05:46.279 as Anaheim Stadium. Later Edison International Field and finally, its rightful name of 63 00:05:46.399 --> 00:05:50.720 Angel Stadium. Probably the most iconic thing about the stadium is the giant a 64 00:05:50.959 --> 00:05:55.800 with a seemingly floating halo right above it, visible for miles from the fifty 65 00:05:55.800 --> 00:06:00.199 seven freeway which runs directly next to it. Now, and compare us in 66 00:06:00.279 --> 00:06:03.920 dodger stadium has been in its current location atop a hill overlooking downtown Los Angeles 67 00:06:04.360 --> 00:06:10.560 in the Elysian Park neighborhoods in this nineteen two it is the third oldest baseball 68 00:06:10.600 --> 00:06:15.199 stadium, behind Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, and the largest baseball stadium in 69 00:06:15.199 --> 00:06:18.560 the world as far as seeding capacity is concerned. Unlike Angel Stadium, Dodger 70 00:06:18.600 --> 00:06:23.040 Stadium is tucked away up on a mountain and behind trees and hills, and 71 00:06:23.079 --> 00:06:26.600 it's not really visible from the freeways. But I will say there is something 72 00:06:26.639 --> 00:06:30.439 magical about driving up that hill and having this huge baseball stadium popping up around 73 00:06:30.439 --> 00:06:36.079 the corner in its own little island in the sky. Basically Um. Now, 74 00:06:36.120 --> 00:06:41.000 if you go to either of these events, the only realistic way you're 75 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:44.639 going to park your car is by ponying up your ponying up your cold, 76 00:06:44.639 --> 00:06:49.240 hard cash or that plastic credit card. There are public transportation options for both. 77 00:06:50.600 --> 00:06:54.920 Los Angeles does offer an exclusive bus service from Neuton Station, which is 78 00:06:54.959 --> 00:06:58.879 the major train station in downtown, or a bus service from the South Bay 79 00:06:58.920 --> 00:07:01.759 area. But it's even better at it for the angels. They have an 80 00:07:01.959 --> 00:07:08.199 entire major transit center right next to the stadium, including Metrolink and Amtrak Service. 81 00:07:08.959 --> 00:07:12.920 Dodger stadium is infamous for its horrible parking situation and that was certainly the 82 00:07:13.000 --> 00:07:15.319 case when I went. Granted, you know, I'll give them a pass 83 00:07:15.399 --> 00:07:17.639 here. There's only so much they're gonna be able to do at the limit 84 00:07:17.680 --> 00:07:21.879 space on the hill it sits on. But Angela stadium is far better suited 85 00:07:21.920 --> 00:07:26.040 for a quick entrance and exit. When I turned over my credit card and 86 00:07:26.079 --> 00:07:29.759 paid up my ten dollar parking fee at Angel Stadium, I was in a 87 00:07:29.879 --> 00:07:32.639 spot in about five minutes. From there it was another five minute walk to 88 00:07:32.720 --> 00:07:36.879 the stadium entrance, and this was for general parking. On the flip side, 89 00:07:36.920 --> 00:07:40.959 it took me about twenty minutes to get to my spot at Dodger Stadium 90 00:07:41.000 --> 00:07:44.959 after I paid the twenty five dollar parking fee. Then it was at least 91 00:07:45.040 --> 00:07:49.279 a ten to fifteen minute walk uphill across the major intersection with a crossing guard 92 00:07:49.639 --> 00:07:54.600 and I finally came to the stadium entrance. I think Angel Stadium Wins Hands 93 00:07:54.639 --> 00:07:58.639 Down here, at least when it comes to parking. So how about the 94 00:07:58.720 --> 00:08:03.279 entrance fee? The only thing standard about entrance fees to a major league baseball 95 00:08:03.560 --> 00:08:07.560 or any sporting events stadium is the ridiculous service fees are going to have to 96 00:08:07.600 --> 00:08:11.920 pay an addition to your ticket. But, as you probably already know, 97 00:08:11.199 --> 00:08:15.959 ticket prices are gonna walk very wildly from where you are sitting to how much 98 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:20.199 buzzer is towards a game and the team's playing. So I sat in section 99 00:08:22.519 --> 00:08:26.120 row S, seat one at Angel Stadium, which is in the front row 100 00:08:26.480 --> 00:08:30.279 but just barely out in the field from first base. At Dodger Stadium I 101 00:08:30.399 --> 00:08:35.600 was way up in the nosebleeds, section two, TV row a. So 102 00:08:35.679 --> 00:08:37.320 while I was front and Center at Dodger Stadium, I was at the top 103 00:08:37.399 --> 00:08:41.639 and while I was off to the side by second base in the Outfield, 104 00:08:41.679 --> 00:08:46.159 at Angel Stadium I was in the First Section by the field itself. My 105 00:08:46.399 --> 00:08:50.840 dodger ticket, including all fees and taxes, came out to forty one correction 106 00:08:50.919 --> 00:08:54.159 fifty four dollars and fifteen cents. My ticket to Angel Stadium, including all 107 00:08:54.200 --> 00:08:58.279 fees and taxes, came out to sixty two dollars and fifty eight cents. 108 00:08:58.960 --> 00:09:01.799 Being that I'm not a made your sports fan, that was about all I 109 00:09:01.840 --> 00:09:07.840 could justify paying more paying in either case. I have consistently found prices to 110 00:09:07.919 --> 00:09:11.840 a dodger game, however, more expensive than Angels Games. Again, that 111 00:09:13.000 --> 00:09:15.879 is for reasons X, Y and Z. likely there are simply a greater 112 00:09:15.960 --> 00:09:18.799 demand for dodgers games and Angels Games, and there was no way I could 113 00:09:18.840 --> 00:09:22.879 get front row steep to a dodger game like I did at the angels game 114 00:09:22.919 --> 00:09:26.639 without busting out my high land a credit cards. Angels is the better value 115 00:09:26.679 --> 00:09:30.039 here, folks. But again, if you're gonna you know you're you're a 116 00:09:30.080 --> 00:09:31.360 dodger fan, you're gonna go to a dodger game. If you're an angels 117 00:09:31.480 --> 00:09:35.000 fan, you're gonna go to an angels game. If you're looking for value 118 00:09:35.039 --> 00:09:37.919 in your trip, you know you're gonna Save, you're gonna get a better 119 00:09:37.000 --> 00:09:41.720 seat, you know, for a better price, at Angel Stadium. Um. 120 00:09:43.759 --> 00:09:48.039 Now, I have seen some worn down stadiums and these older stadium especially 121 00:09:48.080 --> 00:09:52.799 they get constant abuse by fans, and that's exactly what I expected when I 122 00:09:52.840 --> 00:09:58.279 went to dodger stadium. I expected a rundown, old, half broken stadium, 123 00:09:58.639 --> 00:10:03.120 but that is not what I uh. Dodger stadium is largely an impeccable 124 00:10:03.159 --> 00:10:05.799 condition, almost like it was recently refurbished or only built a few years ago. 125 00:10:07.480 --> 00:10:09.919 The restrooms were clean, the walkway behind the stands were good, open 126 00:10:11.000 --> 00:10:13.799 and not as crowded as they were at Angel Stadium. The landscaping around the 127 00:10:13.840 --> 00:10:18.120 stadium was well kept. I had to think to myself at least the dodgers 128 00:10:18.159 --> 00:10:22.919 are investing some time back into their some revenue back into their stadium. For 129 00:10:22.960 --> 00:10:26.519 the fans. Angel Stadium was more of what I was expecting in a stadium 130 00:10:26.879 --> 00:10:31.200 in need of refurbishment and looking at its looking at the age, there was 131 00:10:31.279 --> 00:10:35.840 literally a bathroom attended in the bathroom cleaning constantly and the poor guy just couldn't 132 00:10:35.919 --> 00:10:41.039 keep up the stall I had, the stall I used had a broken door 133 00:10:41.120 --> 00:10:45.360 lock and many of the soap dispensers and water faucets didn't work or were out. 134 00:10:46.200 --> 00:10:48.320 Unlike dodger stadium, at least in my experience, there wasn't a long 135 00:10:48.399 --> 00:10:54.279 line outside the women's restroom. Both both stadiums do landscaping very well and the 136 00:10:54.320 --> 00:10:58.039 little extras are really neat. Dodger stadium has cool places to take photos and 137 00:10:58.080 --> 00:11:03.360 selfies, and so does Angel Stadium. The giant angels hats are really one 138 00:11:03.399 --> 00:11:07.759 such place outside Angel Stadium, and the giant bubblehead characters and retired team members 139 00:11:09.120 --> 00:11:13.799 such as Jackie Robinson outside dodger stadium was another. Both have an abundance of 140 00:11:13.879 --> 00:11:18.440 stores to buy team merchandise and souvenirs and both have a dizzy array of comfort 141 00:11:18.480 --> 00:11:22.120 food options. One thing is for sure, though. Dodger Stadium has an 142 00:11:22.320 --> 00:11:26.600 absolutely amazing view of downtown in the Greater Los Angeles area, just south side, 143 00:11:26.799 --> 00:11:30.399 just the south, on the South side of the stadium. Honestly, 144 00:11:30.440 --> 00:11:35.120 I could just sit up there for hours and join the scenery. I'm going 145 00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:37.080 to give the landscaping, scenery, location, maintenance and set up of the 146 00:11:37.159 --> 00:11:41.320 Ballpark to the dodger stadium here. Um, it was just a better experience 147 00:11:41.399 --> 00:11:48.200 overall in that category. Food, food and drinks was definitely cheaper at Angel 148 00:11:48.240 --> 00:11:52.200 Stadium. I think the quality of food at Dodger Stadium edged out Angel Stadium, 149 00:11:52.240 --> 00:11:58.240 though, but dodger stadium was just crazy expensive, like twitter ridiculous point. 150 00:11:58.960 --> 00:12:03.320 A dodger dog, Nacho, Soda and a water cost me fifty five 151 00:12:03.360 --> 00:12:09.000 bucks at Dodger Stadium. Angel Stadium, an Angels Dog, Nachos, Powade 152 00:12:09.039 --> 00:12:11.679 and two waters Ram me thirty two bucks. Either way, you're going to 153 00:12:11.799 --> 00:12:16.840 get hosed for food and drinks, especially if you want alcohol. But Angels 154 00:12:16.879 --> 00:12:22.679 Stadium is definitely the better value. Angels Scores Events. Both stadiums have events 155 00:12:22.720 --> 00:12:28.679 outside baseball games. Angel Stadium has had motor cross, motocross and monster trucks. 156 00:12:28.720 --> 00:12:31.919 Dodger Stadium similarly has concerts and events. If you also happen to be 157 00:12:31.960 --> 00:12:35.519 in the Los Angeles area, though, when baseball season is off or on, 158 00:12:37.200 --> 00:12:41.279 you can still visit dodger stadium. They offer daily ninety minute tours of 159 00:12:41.360 --> 00:12:45.080 the stadium itself for Twenty Five Bucks adults, kids, seniors in military. 160 00:12:45.559 --> 00:12:48.720 They also have even more exclusive tours you can book, including forty five minute 161 00:12:48.720 --> 00:12:52.840 pregame tours for forty bucks, which includes access to the Memorabilia Hall, Center 162 00:12:52.879 --> 00:12:58.039 Field, Plaza Pavilions and early access to the stadium to watch the dodgers warm 163 00:12:58.120 --> 00:13:01.639 up. Dodger Stadium also offers private tours and caters to field trips, birthdays, 164 00:13:01.679 --> 00:13:07.480 proposals, company outings and other special occasions. Then there's the clubhouse tour, 165 00:13:07.600 --> 00:13:11.039 the granddaddy of them all, for sixty bucks per adult forty dollars per 166 00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:13.799 child, which includes everything in the regular tour plus a visit to the dodger 167 00:13:13.879 --> 00:13:18.159 bullpen, look inside the dodgers weight room and batting cage and peek inside the 168 00:13:18.200 --> 00:13:24.679 exclusive dodgers clubhouse and to stop in the dodger interview room. Something you Neique 169 00:13:24.679 --> 00:13:28.080 the dodger stadium is the tour of the botanical gardens. They have there as 170 00:13:28.120 --> 00:13:31.679 well. For Twenty Five Bucks, the gardener in your life will enjoy water 171 00:13:31.799 --> 00:13:39.559 saving demonstrations California native species, display planting cultivation techniques, interview of the plant 172 00:13:39.679 --> 00:13:43.919 naming system and, of course, it's where of the gardens. Angel Stadium 173 00:13:43.919 --> 00:13:46.840 also has tours and they are a much better value. You can see the 174 00:13:46.919 --> 00:13:50.639 theme here. The seventy minute tour. They all they offer includes a trip 175 00:13:50.679 --> 00:13:54.159 to the field itself, a visit to the angels Dugout, walk through the 176 00:13:54.240 --> 00:13:58.360 various visitor clubhouse. Uh, actually say I walked to the visitor clubhouse, 177 00:13:58.799 --> 00:14:03.320 access to the clubhouse prince press conference room and to look into the gene autry 178 00:14:03.360 --> 00:14:09.639 suite, broadcast booth and dougout suite. And that's all for twelve bucks and 179 00:14:09.799 --> 00:14:15.080 ten for children, military and seniors. Twelve dollars and you basically get the 180 00:14:15.159 --> 00:14:20.240 premium dodger experience to see everything. Long Story Short, you have to pay 181 00:14:20.320 --> 00:14:24.399 up to be a dodger fan, don't you kids? A lot of the 182 00:14:24.480 --> 00:14:28.159 dads out there like to get their kids interested in sports early, from Little 183 00:14:28.240 --> 00:14:31.120 League to family outings. No doubt, if your kids are old enough to 184 00:14:31.159 --> 00:14:35.000 appreciate a major league sporting event, they are going to love a trip to 185 00:14:35.120 --> 00:14:39.440 dodger or or Angel Stadium. The fact is, though, the kids really 186 00:14:39.480 --> 00:14:43.039 look up to these baseball players, don't they? They're seeing wearing their jerseys 187 00:14:43.320 --> 00:14:48.559 of their favorite players and scream screaming let's go dodgers or let's go angels, 188 00:14:48.720 --> 00:14:52.600 and if they are old enough to appreciate it, you know they're certainly gonna 189 00:14:52.600 --> 00:14:56.600 have a blast. Year the dodgers seemed to the dodgers seemed a bit more 190 00:14:56.639 --> 00:15:00.960 stinging with their baseballs. I have to admit when I went but at Angel 191 00:15:01.000 --> 00:15:03.559 Stadium. They were throwing them left and right into the stands for people to 192 00:15:03.639 --> 00:15:09.000 collect, so much so that at every other play, kids were literally standing 193 00:15:09.080 --> 00:15:11.200 up and calling out their favorite player, holding the ball with their glove in 194 00:15:11.240 --> 00:15:16.639 the year, and the angels and Rangers at Angel Stadium Gladly obliged. Most 195 00:15:16.639 --> 00:15:20.399 of the time, I was impressed, almost all the balls went to the 196 00:15:20.519 --> 00:15:24.000 row right next to me. So spoil alert. If you want to greatly 197 00:15:24.039 --> 00:15:28.919 increase your chances of taking home a souvenir ball, sit in section if you 198 00:15:30.000 --> 00:15:35.159 can. Now let's get onto safety and security. After all the news you 199 00:15:35.240 --> 00:15:39.679 hear about the fights and assault set occur at these games, I was actually 200 00:15:39.759 --> 00:15:43.799 genuinely concerned, concerned enough that when I went to Dodger Stadium, I wore 201 00:15:43.840 --> 00:15:46.879 a blue striped shirt shirt. When I went to Angel Stadium, I wore 202 00:15:46.919 --> 00:15:50.559 a blue stripe. Just kidding, I wore a plane red shirt. I 203 00:15:50.720 --> 00:15:54.399 was actually trying to blend in a little and didn't want to be targeted by 204 00:15:54.399 --> 00:15:58.159 the rival gang, so to speak. It's not like I can bring weapons 205 00:15:58.200 --> 00:16:03.159 to defend myself in these war zone owns we call Major League stadiums. Folks, 206 00:16:03.159 --> 00:16:06.679 I'm just kidding. Well, yes, I wore blue and red respectively, 207 00:16:06.759 --> 00:16:08.399 and yes, I was on the lookout for roving drunk fights and other 208 00:16:08.720 --> 00:16:12.639 terrorist security issues. But let me tell you, Major League Baseball has heard 209 00:16:12.639 --> 00:16:17.279 the message loud and clear and fan safety and security is not just a talking 210 00:16:17.360 --> 00:16:22.320 point anymore. There are tons of security guards. Law Enforcement is president most 211 00:16:22.320 --> 00:16:26.360 of these Games and at both stadiums I've even seen police helicopters flying around on 212 00:16:26.399 --> 00:16:30.399 occasion, you know, before they go to their next call service. If 213 00:16:30.440 --> 00:16:34.080 you're respectful and not pulling a randy marsh, you are not going to be 214 00:16:34.240 --> 00:16:40.200 bad dadded. When I was at dodger stadium I even heard fans from the 215 00:16:40.200 --> 00:16:42.960 New York mets sharing the mets when the mets did well and jeering when the 216 00:16:44.039 --> 00:16:48.120 dodgers did well. I looked over nerves nervously at the half drunk buff dodger 217 00:16:48.240 --> 00:16:51.000 fan and he looked at me, he chuckled a little and went on to 218 00:16:51.080 --> 00:16:56.000 back back to watching the game. So you know, both required to passing 219 00:16:56.080 --> 00:17:00.200 metal detectors Um, but I think Angel Stadium has has this much more streamlined. 220 00:17:02.080 --> 00:17:06.079 Instead of the traditional metal detectors where you enter your pockets and run through 221 00:17:06.119 --> 00:17:08.720 a t S, a simulator. Angel Stadium actually let you just walk through 222 00:17:08.720 --> 00:17:14.519 an open air metal detector with here to guards watching for person's backpack bulges or 223 00:17:14.559 --> 00:17:18.559 anything else, any other reason to direct you to secondary, you know, 224 00:17:18.720 --> 00:17:21.720 which, which basically always happens to me at Disneyland. I guess I fit 225 00:17:21.799 --> 00:17:26.240 that profile for some reason, since I usually go solo. Um, it's 226 00:17:26.319 --> 00:17:30.759 it's just gonna be safe here. There's all, there's always uh. There's 227 00:17:30.799 --> 00:17:33.720 basically section leads at each section of the stadium that kind of keep a lookout 228 00:17:33.799 --> 00:17:37.440 for issues, you know, whether it's trash or people getting a little bit 229 00:17:37.440 --> 00:17:41.960 too drunk, and they're quick to try to solve the problem selves with customer 230 00:17:42.039 --> 00:17:47.519 service in mind, or call security is needed. Um, you're gonna have 231 00:17:47.599 --> 00:17:51.119 a good time here and you're gonna be safe, safer than most places, 232 00:17:51.160 --> 00:17:55.880 and so Calli it. Say So. Final thoughts. I want to mention 233 00:17:55.960 --> 00:17:57.720 two things that stood out to me. I sat next to a guy who 234 00:17:57.759 --> 00:18:00.559 worked as an anti by train at at Angel Stadium who, like me, 235 00:18:00.839 --> 00:18:04.200 came to watch the Game Solo but, unlike me, was a big Angel 236 00:18:04.240 --> 00:18:08.440 Fan. He mentioned that, compared to Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium had more 237 00:18:08.440 --> 00:18:11.519 of a laid back vibe and culture, and I think he was spot on. 238 00:18:12.200 --> 00:18:17.119 Dodger stadium just felt more serious and down to business and the fans were 239 00:18:17.160 --> 00:18:21.759 excited from the very first pitch the last. Everything seemed like it was catered 240 00:18:21.799 --> 00:18:25.960 to Tourus, whereas Angel Stadium had the old Bar Ballpark feel I get when 241 00:18:26.000 --> 00:18:32.519 I see pictures of basically Fenway Wrigley. Um, excuse me. The Angel 242 00:18:32.599 --> 00:18:36.160 fans increasingly got into the spirit as the game went on and by the end 243 00:18:36.200 --> 00:18:38.920 they were louder and cheering even more than I saw at d angel. At 244 00:18:38.960 --> 00:18:45.839 Dodger Stadium, further angel fans consistently stood up and cheered for many of the 245 00:18:45.880 --> 00:18:49.599 better plays and hits and whereas I really saw a dodger stadium, Um, 246 00:18:51.160 --> 00:18:53.160 I really saw that at dodger stadium, even though it was a really good 247 00:18:53.240 --> 00:18:59.559 game. Um, Angel fans just constantly stood up and cheered and clapped, 248 00:18:59.680 --> 00:19:03.799 and dodger fans kind of you know, we're, we're. I did see 249 00:19:03.880 --> 00:19:06.839 some standing up and cheering, but mostly it was, you know, everybody's 250 00:19:06.880 --> 00:19:10.160 kind of sitting back and enjoying the game. It's just a different culture as 251 00:19:10.160 --> 00:19:12.400 all it is. Speaking of standing up, one thing I saw that really 252 00:19:12.440 --> 00:19:17.960 impressed me at Angel Stadium was simply how patriotic people were. I was in 253 00:19:18.119 --> 00:19:21.880 line at the Wetzel Pretzel getting some water when the pledge of allegiance was saying. 254 00:19:22.480 --> 00:19:26.200 Everybody, and I mean everybody, stopped, including the forkers behind the 255 00:19:26.279 --> 00:19:30.519 counter. Everyone faced the TVs and held their hands over their heart. Um, 256 00:19:30.839 --> 00:19:34.119 everybody walking down in the back sections of the stadium stopped, you know, 257 00:19:34.200 --> 00:19:38.200 trying to get to their seat, and everybody did. As a marine 258 00:19:38.279 --> 00:19:41.759 veteran and Iraq war vet, it was pretty amazing to see the crowds and 259 00:19:41.799 --> 00:19:45.440 the stands stands to the same thing when they honored the military hero for the 260 00:19:45.559 --> 00:19:51.160 night. And H granted, you know I was. I was pretty impressed. 261 00:19:51.200 --> 00:19:55.000 I was not expecting that. So, granted, I wasn't in the 262 00:19:55.079 --> 00:19:57.440 Interior Walkways of dodger stadium to see if that occurred. And while most fans 263 00:19:57.519 --> 00:20:02.039 did stand up for the pledge, some it not or some kept walking. 264 00:20:02.720 --> 00:20:04.160 Um, just something I note that I noted. Um, you know, 265 00:20:04.279 --> 00:20:07.400 that's not a disad dodge of fans. We all know the O C is 266 00:20:07.440 --> 00:20:11.920 more conservative than L A, but something I was impressed with and stood out 267 00:20:11.000 --> 00:20:15.519 to me. So what should you choose. I hope I've laid out some 268 00:20:15.640 --> 00:20:18.880 facts and opinions here to help you choose. If you only had one day 269 00:20:18.880 --> 00:20:22.440 in so cal. Dodger stadium is always going to have a place in my 270 00:20:22.559 --> 00:20:26.960 heart as the very first major league sporting event I have ever attended, but 271 00:20:27.119 --> 00:20:32.920 they lost against the mets. So, coincidentally, Angel Stadium is also going 272 00:20:32.960 --> 00:20:34.920 to have a place in my heart as the very first time a team I 273 00:20:36.039 --> 00:20:40.599 was actually rooting for won the game. As a non sports fan, I 274 00:20:40.759 --> 00:20:44.000 used to scoff at sports, be bored with ESPN and shrug it off. 275 00:20:44.480 --> 00:20:48.519 I mean, I sat with the anime, video games and Geek squad kids 276 00:20:48.559 --> 00:20:51.359 at lunch in high school and only a fraction of US went on to work 277 00:20:51.400 --> 00:20:55.759 at Google or become a voiceover for enemy, shout out to Maryann Miller. 278 00:20:56.720 --> 00:21:00.599 But I can honestly say I get it. I get why people love sports 279 00:21:00.000 --> 00:21:04.720 like baseball and I get why it's called the American pastime. It really is 280 00:21:04.799 --> 00:21:10.319 an enjoyable experience and I found it very relaxing and entertaining, especially when the 281 00:21:10.319 --> 00:21:14.319 bases are loaded and the angels are up for bat and down two points with 282 00:21:14.400 --> 00:21:17.160 the guy who previously hit at home run, now stepping up to the plate. 283 00:21:17.960 --> 00:21:21.880 Honestly, it was fun and almost definitely go again after a trial all 284 00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:34.759 the other major league sporting venues here in social thanks for listening, folks. 285 00:21:34.960 --> 00:21:40.799 Please visit the website one day in so cal dot com and, if you 286 00:21:40.880 --> 00:21:44.519 enjoyed this podcast, consider subscribing.
