My name is Tim and it's 10 00:00:53.000 --> 00:01:00.679 Friday August and I'm recording from beautiful Rightwood, California. Visit me on the 11 00:01:00.679 --> 00:01:03.400 web one day and socale dot com. One day in SOCAL DOT com for 12 00:01:03.439 --> 00:01:08.400 the latest episodes, travelog videos, interactive map of where I've been, social 13 00:01:08.439 --> 00:01:15.079 media links and more. Hey folks, welcome now, when I started this 14 00:01:15.120 --> 00:01:19.079 podcast, I committed to doing one show a month. That was on episode 15 00:01:19.120 --> 00:01:22.760 one when I said I was gonna Pretty busy, but the truth was I 16 00:01:22.799 --> 00:01:25.799 just wasn't sure if this is gonna be fun or it was gonna be a 17 00:01:25.879 --> 00:01:30.920 grind or you know, I'm here to say that once a month is not 18 00:01:30.959 --> 00:01:34.920 going to work. I think at minimum I'm going to commit to once a 19 00:01:34.959 --> 00:01:38.560 week. I wasn't sure how this was gonna go and even now I'm still 20 00:01:38.599 --> 00:01:42.280 filling my way through this, but the fact of the matter, above all 21 00:01:42.319 --> 00:01:46.319 else, is I'm having a lot of fun exploring so cal and doing a 22 00:01:46.400 --> 00:01:51.480 podcast documenting, documenting and sharing my personal experiences with you guys, so that 23 00:01:51.560 --> 00:01:55.359 you can hopefully plan out your own adventures, either solo or with those that 24 00:01:55.480 --> 00:01:59.239 mean most to you, family and friends. Now I'm still learning, though. 25 00:01:59.439 --> 00:02:01.400 Last week I made the mistake of having a USB fan in the background 26 00:02:01.439 --> 00:02:05.159 while recording. A lot of you guys probably heard that. Hum I do 27 00:02:05.239 --> 00:02:12.560 apologize for that Um and I also kind of mixed up the sound clips out 28 00:02:12.560 --> 00:02:15.919 of order for the Hollywood bowl episode. That bugs bunny little clip scene was 29 00:02:15.960 --> 00:02:20.039 supposed to be right after the INTRO and I ended up putting a second when 30 00:02:20.080 --> 00:02:22.080 I said, Hey, there's gonna be a back to the future clip and 31 00:02:22.120 --> 00:02:25.800 then bugs bunny shows up. So you know, I'm really I'm learning with 32 00:02:25.840 --> 00:02:31.240 each episode I've actually started investing in this podcast however, Um, with equipment, 33 00:02:31.319 --> 00:02:37.199 websites, podcast production software, paid podcast hosting and a higher quality microphone, 34 00:02:37.319 --> 00:02:42.039 a blue snowball MIC, which I'm recording on now. So I'm committed 35 00:02:42.080 --> 00:02:45.680 to this for the long haul and, uh, I'm committed to a hundred 36 00:02:45.680 --> 00:02:47.919 episodes and more. So I hope you stick with me and those of you 37 00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:51.639 that live here, maybe I'll you know, maybe I'll do an episode on 38 00:02:51.680 --> 00:02:53.560 something new that you've never done before. Those of you coming for the first 39 00:02:53.599 --> 00:02:55.680 time, maybe I can give you some tips and advice on how to, 40 00:02:57.360 --> 00:02:59.400 you know, how to make the most out of your first visit to southern 41 00:02:59.479 --> 00:03:04.280 California. So, all that said, Um, on the flip side here, 42 00:03:04.439 --> 00:03:09.000 Um, I am committing to one, one episode a week, but 43 00:03:09.039 --> 00:03:13.919 some of my episodes might be shorter longer than others. For example, a 44 00:03:14.000 --> 00:03:16.360 trip to Catalina Island, which I am planning to do this month in addition 45 00:03:16.360 --> 00:03:20.520 to the trip I took last month, might need an hour to get through. 46 00:03:20.840 --> 00:03:23.879 There's just so much to do in Catalina, just so many little things, 47 00:03:23.919 --> 00:03:28.599 so many things you gotta know. But on the flip side, a 48 00:03:28.680 --> 00:03:32.080 visit to the world's first McDonald's might only need ten minutes, though granted, 49 00:03:32.120 --> 00:03:36.120 I could probably spend an hour talking safety and security on that episode if I 50 00:03:36.159 --> 00:03:40.039 wanted, considering where the first McDonald's is located. I've also got some regional 51 00:03:40.439 --> 00:03:45.680 road trips planned. Are lined up with striking distance, UH, within striking 52 00:03:45.680 --> 00:03:50.400 distance of southern California. A little tongue twister there, um. So thanks 53 00:03:50.400 --> 00:03:53.439 for sticking with me and on that theme, if you have any tips or 54 00:03:53.439 --> 00:03:55.840 suggestions for me and how to improve drop me a line on my contact forum 55 00:03:55.879 --> 00:04:00.080 on the website one day. And so cow DOT COM. Well, okay, 56 00:04:00.080 --> 00:04:08.159 we're gonna move on to you. This week's trip. All right, 57 00:04:08.280 --> 00:04:12.240 so this week I took a trip down to the Hollywood walk of fame in 58 00:04:12.240 --> 00:04:16.399 the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. While I was there, I 59 00:04:16.439 --> 00:04:20.680 also paid a visit for the first time to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. The 60 00:04:20.720 --> 00:04:24.800 walk of fame is definitely an area you could spend a few hours if you 61 00:04:24.800 --> 00:04:28.879 are big on movies and celebrities and want to do the tourist thing while you're 62 00:04:28.920 --> 00:04:31.879 in Los Angeles, which is there's nothing wrong with that. I know people 63 00:04:31.879 --> 00:04:35.639 like to shy away from tourist locations or you know, I don't like to 64 00:04:35.639 --> 00:04:39.439 be a tourist, but I mean I do the tourist thing when I'm in 65 00:04:39.480 --> 00:04:42.439 New York or Tokyo, and with this podcast I'm doing the tourist thing in 66 00:04:42.519 --> 00:04:46.639 Socal as well. Do the tourist thing. There's nothing wrong with that, 67 00:04:46.800 --> 00:04:50.279 especially if you're a tourist. Um, the Hollywood walk of fame is at 68 00:04:50.279 --> 00:04:56.240 two point six, out and back landmark located along Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. 69 00:04:56.800 --> 00:04:59.759 Hollywood is not actually a city, but a neighborhood in L A. 70 00:05:00.399 --> 00:05:02.600 Sadly, the city of Los Angeles scared away most of the movie studios, 71 00:05:02.680 --> 00:05:09.160 but Hollywood is still synonymous with movies, celebrities and the dreams of millions that 72 00:05:09.279 --> 00:05:12.839 come with that. Come here to be rich and famous. Now, I 73 00:05:12.920 --> 00:05:15.279 remember a few years ago when I first went to central casting to register as 74 00:05:15.279 --> 00:05:19.959 a background actor for a major Hollywood production. While waiting outside the central casting 75 00:05:20.040 --> 00:05:24.560 offices, I was amongst a pretty diverse group of people. We all, 76 00:05:24.600 --> 00:05:28.399 you know, we're all strangers. We all stared at our shoes, sometimes 77 00:05:28.399 --> 00:05:33.199 we looked at our phones. Then somebody broke the ice. So I'm just 78 00:05:33.279 --> 00:05:38.439 off the plane from Wisconsin. Where are you guys from? There was a 79 00:05:38.439 --> 00:05:42.600 New Yorker, there was a Hawaiian and Australian, a guy that lives around 80 00:05:42.639 --> 00:05:46.759 the corner and a bunch of other folks, and there was me, mountain 81 00:05:46.800 --> 00:05:49.439 man, way up from the mountains. Such is the lure of Hollywood and 82 00:05:49.480 --> 00:05:53.720 Southern California in general. The American dream is to own a home. The 83 00:05:53.720 --> 00:05:57.240 so call dream is to make it big in Hollywood, and many people here 84 00:05:57.240 --> 00:06:00.600 have made it. The fact is, the fact that that fact is testified 85 00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:05.800 to the Toronto and brass stars embedded in the sidewalk along fifteen blocks of Hollywood 86 00:06:05.800 --> 00:06:11.959 boulevard. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Hollywood walk of Fame, 87 00:06:12.040 --> 00:06:15.079 Ustimates are about twenty four stars added each year. So, however probable, 88 00:06:15.319 --> 00:06:19.959 it is possible. Now. We've all had those dreams of being a, 89 00:06:20.279 --> 00:06:25.160 you know, a rich and famous movie star, and my dream is 90 00:06:25.439 --> 00:06:29.519 somewhat similar, somewhat different. If I ever managed to stake out a middle 91 00:06:29.519 --> 00:06:32.600 class lifestyle in Hollywood, you know where I can still afford the mortgage and 92 00:06:32.639 --> 00:06:35.920 not be struggling, I'll be content. Otherwise, acting will continue to be 93 00:06:35.959 --> 00:06:41.360 a serious hot before me. While I pursue my new career and information technology. 94 00:06:42.120 --> 00:06:45.879 The stars on the Hollywood walk of fame are permanent public monuments to achievement 95 00:06:45.959 --> 00:06:49.279 in entertainment industry. Um in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a 96 00:06:49.319 --> 00:06:56.600 mix of actors, directors, producers, musicians and even theatrical music groups. 97 00:06:57.240 --> 00:07:00.600 You will be able to leisurely stroll the sidewalk here and find your favorite celebrity 98 00:07:00.720 --> 00:07:04.279 just as much as you'll find people you have never heard of before. But 99 00:07:04.319 --> 00:07:09.800 it's not just movies you'll find here. You'll find famous people involved in television, 100 00:07:09.879 --> 00:07:13.680 radio, music, stage. Uh. You'll find well known favorites like 101 00:07:13.680 --> 00:07:17.240 Walt Disney and Tom Cruise, US presidents like Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, 102 00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:23.839 bands like the backstreet boys, announcing legends like Vince Gully, game show hosts 103 00:07:23.879 --> 00:07:29.279 like Alex her Brett Trebec, celebrity chefs like guy fiery, animals such as 104 00:07:29.360 --> 00:07:31.680 lassie and Ren Tin Tin, and even fictional characters, believe it or not, 105 00:07:31.720 --> 00:07:35.279 such as Mickey Mouse, Big Bird, Godzilla, come with the frog. 106 00:07:35.680 --> 00:07:40.319 There's even a star for all the muppet cast, just the muppets. 107 00:07:41.079 --> 00:07:44.600 Now. All that aside, I think the coolest star on the walk of 108 00:07:44.639 --> 00:07:47.720 fame personally, for me isn't a star at all, but a circular moon 109 00:07:47.839 --> 00:07:54.199 shaped monument in the sidewalk honoring Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Mike Collins, 110 00:07:54.560 --> 00:07:58.720 for a Paul Levin, and when you stop and think about it for a 111 00:07:58.720 --> 00:08:01.680 minute, it makes obvious ends these incredibly brave men should be honored on the 112 00:08:01.720 --> 00:08:07.240 Hollywood walk of fame. As the Hollywood or as the Apoll Leven moon landing 113 00:08:07.240 --> 00:08:13.079 remains one of the most watched TV moments in history even today. Some stars 114 00:08:13.120 --> 00:08:16.680 are located in iconic locations, such as Mike Meyers Star and from the International 115 00:08:16.759 --> 00:08:22.519 Love Boutique, you know, in association with his Austin Powers Role. Roger 116 00:08:22.560 --> 00:08:26.639 Moore and Daniel Craigstar is located at seven zero seven Hollywood Boulevard in recognition, 117 00:08:26.720 --> 00:08:31.399 recognition for their roles as James Bond of Willo seven Ed O'Neil Starr is located 118 00:08:31.399 --> 00:08:35.279 outside a shoe store, referencing his character's career as a shoe salesman and the 119 00:08:35.360 --> 00:08:41.519 hit Sitcom. Married with children. The last star at the westernmost portion is 120 00:08:41.559 --> 00:08:43.720 for a group of young golden age of Hollywood actors known as the dead end 121 00:08:43.799 --> 00:08:48.200 kids. There's also a star representing the Hud two adults and twelve children who 122 00:08:48.200 --> 00:08:54.120 played the Munchkins in the nineteen thirty nine classic wizard of Oz. Other stars 123 00:08:54.159 --> 00:08:58.320 have other symbolic location means. Jay Leno, for example. He requested his 124 00:08:58.360 --> 00:09:01.200 star to be near Hollywood boulevard and Hi Island Avenue, where he was picked 125 00:09:01.279 --> 00:09:07.200 up twice for vagrancy by police. They'll never charged. Basically they mistook him 126 00:09:07.200 --> 00:09:11.279 for a bum Um. I don't know what are we calling him now? 127 00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:16.519 The UN housed, the UNSHELTERED UM? But in any case, not long 128 00:09:16.559 --> 00:09:20.320 after he came to Hollywood, you know he was he was getting get the 129 00:09:20.320 --> 00:09:24.919 police were kind of Hey, what are you doing here? Um? Today, 130 00:09:24.200 --> 00:09:28.799 as I'm gonna explain later, that doesn't happen at all. UH, 131 00:09:28.840 --> 00:09:31.559 there's not a police officer to be seen, much less endless amounts of vagrants. 132 00:09:31.600 --> 00:09:35.879 And on the sidewalk back to it. George Carlin placed his star near 133 00:09:35.919 --> 00:09:41.360 the K Day radio station where he first gained national recognition. Muhammad Ali is 134 00:09:41.399 --> 00:09:43.919 the only star not on the sidewalk. Rather, it's embedded in the wall 135 00:09:45.399 --> 00:09:48.519 at the dolby theater and it's near the sidewalk and you can still visit it 136 00:09:48.559 --> 00:09:50.480 and take pictures in front of it. But Ali wants explaining. He didn't 137 00:09:50.480 --> 00:09:56.759 want people walking over him or his name. Kind of interesting. Other unique 138 00:09:56.799 --> 00:10:00.120 stars include Tom Bradley, who was mayor of Los Angeles, which feature is 139 00:10:00.159 --> 00:10:01.840 the seal of the city of Los Angeles, as opposed to a TV camera. 140 00:10:01.919 --> 00:10:05.960 Like the rest of the actors, The Los Angeles Police Department Star includes 141 00:10:05.960 --> 00:10:11.279 a replica of the Hollywood division badge, and corporate exceptions to the no corporation 142 00:10:11.440 --> 00:10:18.039 role for the Hollywood walk of fame include Victoria's secret, the Los Angeles dodgers 143 00:10:18.279 --> 00:10:22.840 and Disneyland Inventors have a place on the walk of fame too, including Thomas 144 00:10:22.960 --> 00:10:26.679 Edison for his role in inventing the film projector George Eastman, who invented the 145 00:10:26.759 --> 00:10:31.679 role film, and leady forrest, who invented triode vacuum tubes. Some of 146 00:10:31.720 --> 00:10:37.159 US said that right, trood triode vacuum tubes, which is what makes time 147 00:10:37.200 --> 00:10:41.480 travel possible. Just kidding, which is what makes radio and TV possible. 148 00:10:41.840 --> 00:10:43.720 Storry, I'm still humming the L A phils rendition from back to the future 149 00:10:43.720 --> 00:10:48.919 from last week's project cast at the Holly Bowl Um, the only person with 150 00:10:50.000 --> 00:10:52.759 five stars on the walk of fame, one for each category, is gene 151 00:10:52.759 --> 00:10:56.879 autry. When celebrities pass away, their stars often often becomes a temporary memorial, 152 00:10:56.919 --> 00:11:01.159 as you'll see right now and as of this your courting with dodger announcer 153 00:11:01.279 --> 00:11:03.919 legend, Vince coolly. As you can see, just a ton of history 154 00:11:03.919 --> 00:11:09.000 and culture along this stretch of Boulevard. Um, it's just a whole culture 155 00:11:09.039 --> 00:11:16.879 placed in its UN so let's get onto what the experience is like. What 156 00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:20.200 is it actually like to step out of the subway tunnel? And there is 157 00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:24.080 a subway station right on the boulevard, by the way, for those of 158 00:11:24.120 --> 00:11:28.919 you commuting the politic transportation? Um and UH. What's it like to just 159 00:11:28.960 --> 00:11:33.720 to walk out and and and be there? Well, I've passed UH. 160 00:11:33.840 --> 00:11:39.519 About two or three months ago I went down there and just just the other 161 00:11:39.559 --> 00:11:43.000 day I went back down there for this podcast episode. So walking down the 162 00:11:43.000 --> 00:11:46.480 Hollywood walk of fame is a bucket list thing for people to do all over 163 00:11:46.519 --> 00:11:50.159 the world. I have lived in southern California my entire life and, as 164 00:11:50.200 --> 00:11:54.240 I stated, the first time I went down there was a few months ago 165 00:11:54.039 --> 00:12:00.039 and I just went back again for the for this podcast episode and and. 166 00:12:01.279 --> 00:12:03.720 But the thing is that when I first went down there a couple of months 167 00:12:03.759 --> 00:12:07.440 ago, it was it was more of just kind of I didn't go the 168 00:12:07.440 --> 00:12:09.480 whole way. I walked part way down, just look some of the stars, 169 00:12:09.480 --> 00:12:13.159 see some of the shops. This time I did the whole thing. 170 00:12:13.840 --> 00:12:16.000 I did a lot of shops. I walked the whole thing up back, 171 00:12:16.080 --> 00:12:20.919 up and down and I started my walk on the corner of Labrea and Hollywood 172 00:12:20.919 --> 00:12:24.600 Boulevard. I walked the one point six miles east bound. Along the way 173 00:12:24.639 --> 00:12:26.879 I passed by a variety of shops, restaurants, interesting people on the street, 174 00:12:26.960 --> 00:12:30.360 to say the least. Um You know, you get all the people 175 00:12:30.360 --> 00:12:35.240 that dress up and the costumes that don't quite look right, but you get 176 00:12:35.279 --> 00:12:43.559 what they're trying to be. Those kind of things. Um there, along 177 00:12:43.639 --> 00:12:48.240 this boulevard there's an endless amount of souvenir stores, most of which sell generic 178 00:12:48.279 --> 00:12:52.360 Hollywood theme merchandise, from Fake Oscar trophreeze trophies to l a or Hollywood t 179 00:12:52.440 --> 00:12:56.399 shirts, along with the endless supply of key chains, magnets, toy snacks 180 00:12:56.399 --> 00:12:58.720 and drinks. There are some unique stores on the Hollywood walk of fame, 181 00:12:58.759 --> 00:13:03.679 however, for Amiba music on the corner of Hollywood boulevard and argyle Avenue brand 182 00:13:03.759 --> 00:13:09.240 itself as the world's largest independent record store, and they're probably correct. This 183 00:13:09.360 --> 00:13:13.759 large store stocks a lot of music movies in merchandise, from CDs to vinyl 184 00:13:13.799 --> 00:13:16.519 records, and they often have live free shows in store. Check out their 185 00:13:16.559 --> 00:13:20.759 calendar for the shows. AMIBA DOT COM, a m O E B A 186 00:13:20.879 --> 00:13:24.639 dot com. No, they're not a sponsor those. Are you interested in 187 00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:28.519 joining a cult? In My oh so humble and first amendment protected opinion, 188 00:13:28.559 --> 00:13:33.679 of course, sit down scientology lawyers. The Church of Scientology has a recruiting 189 00:13:33.720 --> 00:13:39.120 offices here as well. So if you want to join scientology and get up 190 00:13:39.120 --> 00:13:43.559 trying to make your way up there with Tom Cruise, it's here and they're 191 00:13:43.559 --> 00:13:46.639 standing outside of the store and they're talking with people and, uh, you 192 00:13:46.679 --> 00:13:48.960 know, you might be just interested just to here here they're side of the 193 00:13:48.960 --> 00:13:54.000 store. I don't know. Not Me. I kept going. Perhaps the 194 00:13:54.080 --> 00:13:58.399 largest souvenir souvenir store on the walk of fame is la La Land Um and 195 00:13:58.480 --> 00:14:01.360 has nothing to do with the movie, but interesting name, and a cool 196 00:14:01.440 --> 00:14:05.679 name at that. I have to admit this is basically a half Walmart sized 197 00:14:05.840 --> 00:14:11.519 megastore with virtually any kind of Hollywood's related souvenir you can think of. They 198 00:14:11.519 --> 00:14:13.840 have a mini grocery store in there too, or you can pick up cold 199 00:14:13.879 --> 00:14:16.360 drinks and snacks right in the store. Lola land is on the corner of 200 00:14:16.480 --> 00:14:20.919 Orange and Hollywood if you want to turn some middle class heads and be carrying 201 00:14:20.919 --> 00:14:26.679 those classier bags with more expensive merchandise down the Hollywood boulevard. However, the 202 00:14:26.679 --> 00:14:31.159 Hollywood and highland shopping monits the dolby theater across from the famous Roosevelt Hotel has 203 00:14:31.200 --> 00:14:35.519 you covered with store such as Sephora, forever, twenty one, Victoria's secret 204 00:14:35.600 --> 00:14:39.519 and the dodgers clubhouse, which isn't really a clubhouse. It's actually officially licensed 205 00:14:39.559 --> 00:14:45.879 dodger store. Um. There's also a ton of dining options here at the 206 00:14:45.879 --> 00:14:50.759 Hollywood and Vine Um, basically at the mall. There's a Ben and Jerry's, 207 00:14:50.799 --> 00:14:54.279 a cold stone Chadow Tea Room, David Busters Hard Rock Cafe, California 208 00:14:54.279 --> 00:15:00.320 Pizza Kitchen, Jina Roman Express. There's even a bowling alley. Speaking of 209 00:15:00.320 --> 00:15:01.840 food, let's get onto some of the more unique restaurants on the walk of 210 00:15:01.879 --> 00:15:05.519 fame, because there are some pretty cool restaurants that you can spend some time 211 00:15:05.559 --> 00:15:11.120 at. Um, it's kind of dinner and entertainment in some ways. All 212 00:15:11.120 --> 00:15:13.440 that work, all that walking down is certainly gonna build up an APP have, 213 00:15:13.559 --> 00:15:16.759 you build up an appetite and you won't struggle to find a place to 214 00:15:16.799 --> 00:15:20.600 meet your knees here. There are traditional staples such as buffalo wild wings and 215 00:15:20.679 --> 00:15:26.399 McDonald's, independent ice cream stores, mini bars, pizza shops, given a 216 00:15:26.399 --> 00:15:30.039 hooko lounge if that's your thing. Um. Keep in mind, though, 217 00:15:31.080 --> 00:15:35.279 besides tourism, this is a major locals hangout on Friday night, so the 218 00:15:35.399 --> 00:15:39.559 night scene is huge here. On Friday's and weekends. You're gonna have locals 219 00:15:39.600 --> 00:15:43.840 and tours all mixed up, crowding the sidewalks and there's probably be long waits. 220 00:15:43.279 --> 00:15:48.759 Reservations are a absolute must on the Hollywood walk of fame. I know 221 00:15:48.879 --> 00:15:50.360 this because a few days before I went down, I tried to get a 222 00:15:50.399 --> 00:15:54.399 reservation at a nice, five star restaurant so I could talk about on the 223 00:15:54.399 --> 00:15:58.559 podcast, and it could not be done. Let me tell you, Um, 224 00:16:00.039 --> 00:16:02.639 one of the more unique spots on the Hollywood walk of fame as far 225 00:16:02.679 --> 00:16:07.440 as food and beverage goes, is the scum and villain in Cantina. Do 226 00:16:07.480 --> 00:16:11.080 you see where I'm going with this? There's no need to head to Disneyland 227 00:16:11.120 --> 00:16:15.519 Star Wars land to spend some time in a tattooing Katina. CANTINA. Scum 228 00:16:15.519 --> 00:16:18.799 and villain in Cantina is a true recreation, as much as they can get 229 00:16:18.799 --> 00:16:22.080 away with legally anyways, of a star wars themed Cantina right on the Hollywood 230 00:16:22.080 --> 00:16:25.720 walk of fame. There's no windows here. You really feel like you're in 231 00:16:25.720 --> 00:16:30.120 a Cantina and, best of all, it is a hundred percent free to 232 00:16:30.240 --> 00:16:33.080 visit. It's an absolute must, even if you are even slightly a star 233 00:16:33.120 --> 00:16:36.559 wars fan. I'm not the biggest star wars fan in the world, but 234 00:16:36.639 --> 00:16:40.480 this place is cool. Check it out if if you like star wars or 235 00:16:40.519 --> 00:16:44.000 if you just need to you know, a stiff drink. People under twenty 236 00:16:44.039 --> 00:16:47.799 one can visit, so bring the Star Wars kids fans to Um, at 237 00:16:47.879 --> 00:16:49.440 least until eight PM, at which point it turns into a proper bar. 238 00:16:51.559 --> 00:16:56.200 Besides alcohol and beverages, there are fun bites such as fully loaded vader tots, 239 00:16:56.679 --> 00:17:00.440 marvel Mac and cheese, galactic wacamolion chips and the Falcon Burger, among 240 00:17:00.559 --> 00:17:04.319 lots of other items. The SCUMM and Villainy Villain and Cantina is open Monday 241 00:17:04.359 --> 00:17:07.680 through Saturday, five pm to two am, and Sundays eleven am to two 242 00:17:07.680 --> 00:17:12.400 am, and it's located between Cohana Boulevard and, I have our avenue on 243 00:17:12.440 --> 00:17:18.160 the Hollywood Boulevard. Um, so it's hanging out with smugglers, geeks and 244 00:17:18.200 --> 00:17:22.759 those with death warrants on twelve systems is not your kind of thing. We're 245 00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:25.880 not the kind of company you like to keep. There's plenty of other fine 246 00:17:25.880 --> 00:17:30.319 dining options and even some Michelin rated restaurants around the corner and Melrose and Librea, 247 00:17:30.559 --> 00:17:33.720 as you might expect in Hollywood. To begin with, I expect to 248 00:17:33.720 --> 00:17:36.359 pay a little more here, no matter what you choose, as this is 249 00:17:36.640 --> 00:17:38.759 not only Los Angeles where you're gonna pay a lot more, but it's a 250 00:17:38.799 --> 00:17:41.680 major tourist area, so it's kind of like a double am you know, 251 00:17:41.759 --> 00:17:48.400 we another restaurants called Beatle House, which offers a Tim Burton themed dining experience 252 00:17:48.440 --> 00:17:53.000 near the corner of Lus La Palmas and Hollywood there's then there's even a black 253 00:17:53.119 --> 00:17:57.000 rabbit rose magician themed restaurant, and a lot of live magicians perform here. 254 00:17:57.799 --> 00:18:02.000 And don't worry, there's plenty of coffee shops as well, including starbucks. 255 00:18:02.400 --> 00:18:04.559 Even a subway if you're trying to slim down, you know, like like 256 00:18:04.680 --> 00:18:10.240 me. Um, let's see, besides the restaurants and stores, there are 257 00:18:10.319 --> 00:18:12.400 still a few things to do here besides shopping, eating and walking down the 258 00:18:12.440 --> 00:18:18.319 sidewalk. Of course, there's the world famous TCL Chinese theater, formerly Grammin's 259 00:18:18.359 --> 00:18:23.680 Theater Um. They offer tours inside for sixteen dollars, but if you come 260 00:18:23.680 --> 00:18:27.559 here on a weekday there will often be tour guides standing by the entrance announcing 261 00:18:27.559 --> 00:18:30.799 tours for ten dollars. So if you plan on coming down here on a 262 00:18:30.799 --> 00:18:34.680 weekday, I wouldn't buy them online just yet. I would come down, 263 00:18:36.359 --> 00:18:41.240 check out some of the handprints in the courtyard and see if they're offering attend 264 00:18:41.240 --> 00:18:42.599 all on discount. If not, man, you know, no loss paid 265 00:18:42.599 --> 00:18:47.839 of sixteen bucks. But if you want to do a tour Um side note, 266 00:18:47.880 --> 00:18:51.200 though, I don't recommend booking a tour through trip advisor or Viatar for 267 00:18:51.279 --> 00:18:53.559 this location. I was. I know this because I was gonna come here 268 00:18:53.559 --> 00:18:56.640 and report on it via the podcast during this trip as well, but they 269 00:18:56.640 --> 00:19:00.839 canceled my tickets last minute. Um. So, instead of booking directly from 270 00:19:00.839 --> 00:19:07.400 the Chinese theater itself via their website, or should say instead book directly from 271 00:19:07.400 --> 00:19:11.599 the Chinese Theater itselfia their website, you're gonna get guaranteed tickets that way, 272 00:19:12.480 --> 00:19:18.400 and reservations are definitely a bust for this on weekends and holidays and, Um, 273 00:19:18.839 --> 00:19:22.519 especially in the summer as well. Another thing to note about the TCL 274 00:19:22.599 --> 00:19:26.920 Chinese theater is that it's not just the prop. It's not just a theater 275 00:19:26.960 --> 00:19:30.680 in name only. This is an actual movie theater and they are showing movies 276 00:19:30.759 --> 00:19:34.839 during the week, both first run blockbusters and classics. Some of the movies 277 00:19:34.839 --> 00:19:38.759 they are showing this week as of this podcast recording our thor love and thunder, 278 00:19:40.319 --> 00:19:45.200 jaws, Dragon Ball, super superhero e t the extraterrestrial and bullet train. 279 00:19:45.799 --> 00:19:48.200 So if you're in the area and want to see a movie and want 280 00:19:48.200 --> 00:19:51.680 to do something unique with your movie, yeah, check out their schedule. 281 00:19:52.279 --> 00:19:56.680 Immediately outside the theater in a courtyard, is a free attraction of cement slabs 282 00:19:56.079 --> 00:20:02.559 with famous actors and celebrities, actual feet and prints and writings from Judy Garland 283 00:20:02.599 --> 00:20:06.200 to Patrick Stewart. If your favorite, if your favorite actor is famous enough, 284 00:20:06.279 --> 00:20:08.480 you're gonna find their imprints here. There's even an R two, D 285 00:20:08.559 --> 00:20:14.759 two and C three Po in print here. Um. So it's pretty cool 286 00:20:14.839 --> 00:20:17.799 just to see some of those, like, for example, Judy Garland, 287 00:20:17.799 --> 00:20:19.759 like I mentioned, just to see her handprints and her message, it's like 288 00:20:19.839 --> 00:20:23.319 wow, she actually did that. You know that that was her, her 289 00:20:23.400 --> 00:20:27.359 imprints. So it's pretty cool. And you got like Roy Rogers, Tom 290 00:20:27.440 --> 00:20:33.279 Cruise, uh, the Harry Potter actors. Um. It's just neat, 291 00:20:33.960 --> 00:20:36.480 Um, really cool and it's gonna probably be crowded if you come around a 292 00:20:36.519 --> 00:20:42.359 weekday and Um, the dolbe theater also offers tours as well and it should 293 00:20:42.359 --> 00:20:47.039 be reserved online. The dolby theater is basically right next to the TC L 294 00:20:47.119 --> 00:20:52.799 Chinese theater. It's kind of really a kind of an upgraded high tech theater 295 00:20:52.839 --> 00:20:56.359 where they hold the Academy Awards and if you take the tour, actually get 296 00:20:56.359 --> 00:21:00.160 to go inside and see where the awards ceremony takes place. Reviews are mixed. 297 00:21:00.200 --> 00:21:03.480 Though, so do your own personal research on this one, as towards 298 00:21:03.480 --> 00:21:07.119 cost five bucks and that's that's a bit of change for a short tour and 299 00:21:07.279 --> 00:21:14.960 mixed reviews. Um. But if you never miss the OX screws every year 300 00:21:15.079 --> 00:21:18.079 and you're in l a come down to visit and you have or you have 301 00:21:18.480 --> 00:21:22.200 one day in Socal, then yeah, come on down and do the tour. 302 00:21:22.440 --> 00:21:26.799 Why not? Um, there are some museums and some are better than 303 00:21:26.799 --> 00:21:30.359 others. To get us, book a World Records has a museum here and 304 00:21:30.400 --> 00:21:33.519 the entrance is between twenty nine dollars and nine nine stands to thirty four night 305 00:21:33.559 --> 00:21:38.079 and nine for adults kids. The one thing cool about the Guinness Book World 306 00:21:38.119 --> 00:21:41.240 Records Museum, though, is that you get free admission to the Hollywood Wax 307 00:21:41.359 --> 00:21:45.920 Museum, a competitor to Madam Tussaud's, if you buy either ticket. So 308 00:21:45.960 --> 00:21:48.680 if you go to Guiness book a world records, you get a free trip 309 00:21:48.720 --> 00:21:55.759 to the Hollywood Maxim Wax Museum across the street. Um, if you vice 310 00:21:55.759 --> 00:21:56.960 first or you go to the Hollywood aax museum, Hey, you're going to 311 00:21:56.960 --> 00:22:02.400 the Guinness Book World Director Records Museum, so that's kind of cool. rippleys 312 00:22:02.400 --> 00:22:04.759 believe it or not, has a museum here in the entrance is for kids 313 00:22:04.759 --> 00:22:10.160 and adults, not to be outdone by the Combo with ginnis world records in 314 00:22:10.160 --> 00:22:12.680 a hollow Wax Museum, though, Ripley's has teamed up with Madam tussod's to 315 00:22:12.720 --> 00:22:15.799 offer a Combo ticket for ninety nine, and that will get you into both 316 00:22:15.880 --> 00:22:22.079 Ripley's and Madam Tussod's. Um. There's also an optical illusion and three d 317 00:22:22.200 --> 00:22:27.000 exhibits and Um and interactive experience. Is kind of museum perfect for taking photos. 318 00:22:27.880 --> 00:22:33.240 I believe it's called the optical illusions museum and General Emission here are thirty 319 00:22:33.240 --> 00:22:37.519 bucks, twenty for children. Museum of selfies. Yes, there's a museum 320 00:22:37.559 --> 00:22:41.960 of selfies. Mean, it was gonna happen sooner or later, right. 321 00:22:41.319 --> 00:22:45.720 Is a multi exhibit museum featuring tons of places that takes fun selfies, such 322 00:22:45.759 --> 00:22:51.240 as optical illusion, uh, illusions inside paintings, even a game of Thrones 323 00:22:51.279 --> 00:22:56.440 Replica Throne Uh cost twenty five bucks for adults, twenty kids and as uh. 324 00:22:56.599 --> 00:23:00.319 As stated at the beginning, I went to Madam Tussau it on this 325 00:23:00.400 --> 00:23:04.359 particular trip, so let's have a chat about that and find out what you 326 00:23:04.400 --> 00:23:10.680 can expect if you decide to go to Madame tussads Hollywood. So Madam Tussad's 327 00:23:10.759 --> 00:23:15.200 of Hollywood has about a hundred, um actually over a hundred, highly realistic 328 00:23:15.319 --> 00:23:19.599 wax sculptures featuring featuring some of the most famous people on Earth. Now, 329 00:23:19.599 --> 00:23:25.000 what's cool about Madame tussads Wax Museum is that they aren't behind glass or behind 330 00:23:25.000 --> 00:23:27.720 a rope. You can get up close and personal with your favorite celebrity, 331 00:23:27.799 --> 00:23:32.720 either re enacting scenes with them or just throwing your arms around their shoulder like 332 00:23:32.720 --> 00:23:37.240 you guys are best buds. The Wax Museum isn't limited to today's generation of 333 00:23:37.319 --> 00:23:41.440 rich and famous either. They have something for everybody here, and I mean 334 00:23:41.519 --> 00:23:44.599 everybody, and you know, let me give you an example. If your 335 00:23:44.599 --> 00:23:48.079 teenage daughter wants to meet Ariod and Grande or beyonce, they're here. If 336 00:23:48.160 --> 00:23:52.319 Dad wants to go toe to toe with the Rock or Daniel Craig, they're 337 00:23:52.359 --> 00:23:56.680 here. If your someone wants to join forces with Captain America Thor, they're 338 00:23:56.720 --> 00:24:00.640 here. If mom wants to gaze into those John Travolta eyes or fall prey 339 00:24:00.720 --> 00:24:06.119 to the evil Dr Hannibal Lictor, they're here. If uncle Joe wants to 340 00:24:06.160 --> 00:24:10.880 answer that age old question of WHO's the better captain, picard or Kirk, 341 00:24:11.839 --> 00:24:17.839 they're here. Card. Excuse me where that comes from. Funny off topic 342 00:24:17.880 --> 00:24:21.599 story on that. By the way, I once got a response from an 343 00:24:21.599 --> 00:24:26.240 angry William Shatner when I told him that orbits was better than price line on 344 00:24:26.240 --> 00:24:32.440 twitter. Now, it started as a reply backing up podcast legend Todd Cochrane, 345 00:24:32.440 --> 00:24:36.680 who was annoyed that Shatner was basically defecating on the podcast community when he 346 00:24:36.759 --> 00:24:41.359 rudely and openly refused publicly to an invite to come on a podcast as a 347 00:24:41.359 --> 00:24:47.319 guest. Uh So, as a consequence he retweeted me and sticked his millions 348 00:24:47.319 --> 00:24:49.160 of fans on me, which of course blew up my twitter account in box 349 00:24:49.200 --> 00:24:52.599 and I had to stay on twitter for a few days. But I'll share 350 00:24:52.640 --> 00:24:55.960 that little funny piece in my trialogue on the website one day and social dot 351 00:24:56.000 --> 00:25:00.160 com Um for this episode. Uh. Funny off topic story number two. 352 00:25:00.720 --> 00:25:04.759 I actually did some cold script reading with his granddaughter at an Acting Class A 353 00:25:04.880 --> 00:25:10.279 few years after this at Kat she's acting studio Ms. She is a former 354 00:25:10.319 --> 00:25:12.599 actor, now director that has done such hits as rescued by Ruby on Netflix 355 00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:17.240 and Nancy drew in the hidden staircase. Of course, I didn't mention the 356 00:25:17.240 --> 00:25:22.160 twitter feud with her, but it was still pretty cool to, you know, 357 00:25:22.680 --> 00:25:26.799 actually do a could script reading with with William Shatner's granddaughter. That was 358 00:25:26.799 --> 00:25:29.680 pretty neat, by the way. For those you don't know, could script 359 00:25:29.720 --> 00:25:32.640 reading is where you are given a script and have very little or no prep 360 00:25:32.640 --> 00:25:34.880 time to study it and read it live and attempt to act it out on 361 00:25:34.920 --> 00:25:40.079 the fly and basically figure out on the go what the scene what the scene 362 00:25:40.160 --> 00:25:42.200 entails, kind of get to your creative juice loan, so to speak. 363 00:25:42.640 --> 00:25:48.200 anyways, back to the PODCAST. If GRANDPA wants to relive the good old 364 00:25:48.319 --> 00:25:52.559 days with Elvis or Clark Gable, they're here. If your pet support dog 365 00:25:52.599 --> 00:25:56.319 wants to beat toto from wizard of Oz he, or actually I should say 366 00:25:56.480 --> 00:26:00.359 she is here. Yes, folks, Toto was actually a female dog in 367 00:26:00.359 --> 00:26:03.599 real life, but you get the theme here. There's really something for everybody 368 00:26:03.640 --> 00:26:07.920 here. Now we've all seen the pictures and heard the stories, but how 369 00:26:07.000 --> 00:26:11.640 good are these wax models? I mean really, and you know me, 370 00:26:11.680 --> 00:26:12.880 I'm gonna I'm gonna well, if you don't know me, you're gonna know 371 00:26:14.000 --> 00:26:17.480 me. I I tell you the truth. I want you to be well 372 00:26:17.519 --> 00:26:22.200 informed. Big about, you know, getting maximum value for your dollar. 373 00:26:22.440 --> 00:26:27.079 So was this place really up the snuff? Basically, Um, now, 374 00:26:27.319 --> 00:26:32.160 these these models are fully formed, fully dressed, highly realistic and if you 375 00:26:32.160 --> 00:26:34.440 look closely enough, obviously you can tell their fake. The same goes for 376 00:26:34.480 --> 00:26:40.359 a room that's really highly lit up. The reflection off light, the reflection 377 00:26:40.400 --> 00:26:42.920 of light off cold wax, is pretty obvious. But get the lighting right 378 00:26:44.200 --> 00:26:47.079 and it's really hard to tell the difference, except for the fact they're not 379 00:26:47.160 --> 00:26:52.839 moving. Honestly, I was at times. I was at time scared to 380 00:26:52.839 --> 00:26:56.160 walk past these sculptures sometimes or turn my back on them, because I thought 381 00:26:56.200 --> 00:26:57.480 one of them would actually be the real thing and try to scare me. 382 00:26:59.119 --> 00:27:03.400 We've seen some of that, such as Um Arnold Schwarzenegger doing doing that in 383 00:27:03.680 --> 00:27:07.480 the Wax Museum and scaring the guests. UH, there's, there's, there's 384 00:27:07.559 --> 00:27:11.759 one little hallway where they were both on there. You know, the models 385 00:27:11.759 --> 00:27:14.559 are on both sides and you're walking down the hallway and I'm just like, 386 00:27:15.319 --> 00:27:18.599 I'm just like, it felt like, uh, remember that scene from Silent 387 00:27:18.680 --> 00:27:22.880 Hill where you know, what's her name? She's she's trying to rescue her 388 00:27:22.960 --> 00:27:26.720 daughter and she's trying to walk past all the deformed, you know, nurses 389 00:27:26.759 --> 00:27:30.799 holding knives. That's kind of what it felt like. Sometimes I was like, 390 00:27:30.880 --> 00:27:33.759 Oh man, just kind of like trying to slide by because I thought 391 00:27:33.759 --> 00:27:37.480 one of them, some of those are really some of those wax models are 392 00:27:37.559 --> 00:27:41.000 incredibly realistic. Like, like I said, you get the lighting right where 393 00:27:41.000 --> 00:27:47.160 it's not obviously, you know, reflecting off the wax and I think like 394 00:27:47.279 --> 00:27:53.559 wow, could that be the real thing? Um, it. Honestly, 395 00:27:53.599 --> 00:27:57.160 it kind of scared me a little bit when I did that, but in 396 00:27:57.200 --> 00:28:02.440 any case, um that to this. Um, yes, some of these 397 00:28:02.480 --> 00:28:07.160 wax models are extremely realistic and unless you get right up to them and close 398 00:28:07.200 --> 00:28:08.960 to them, you are you know, if you're if you're especially you're looking 399 00:28:08.960 --> 00:28:11.400 down at this is down the hallway, it looks like the real thing. 400 00:28:12.200 --> 00:28:18.839 Um, these are really incredible pieces of art. Um, and this whole 401 00:28:18.920 --> 00:28:23.079 museum is spread across three floors, by the way. Um, these these 402 00:28:23.119 --> 00:28:26.319 wax sculptures are not behind glass or rope. You can get right up to 403 00:28:26.400 --> 00:28:32.640 them and you really you know and up close and personal with with your favorite 404 00:28:32.640 --> 00:28:34.319 actor, I guess, so to speak. Um, a lot of the 405 00:28:34.400 --> 00:28:37.160 museum is set up from scenes from films to you can re enact to me 406 00:28:37.240 --> 00:28:41.240 part of complete with props and background, like sitting with forrest Gump on a 407 00:28:41.279 --> 00:28:48.119 park bench, getting direction from Steven Spielberg or, my personal favorite, negotiating 408 00:28:48.119 --> 00:28:53.160 with the Godfather himself, Marlon Brando, in his office. Now we've all, 409 00:28:53.200 --> 00:28:56.799 at one point or another, had the dream of being famous, famous 410 00:28:56.799 --> 00:29:00.000 actor or just meeting your favorite celebrity, and let's year l this is about 411 00:29:00.000 --> 00:29:03.519 as close as the vast majority that's all gonna get. So come and enjoy 412 00:29:03.559 --> 00:29:07.400 it. Um, you take this out so when you come in, you 413 00:29:07.400 --> 00:29:10.640 take the ele of it up to the third floor and eventually make your way 414 00:29:10.640 --> 00:29:12.680 back down by stairs to the first floor. I was kind of trying to 415 00:29:12.759 --> 00:29:15.759 rush through it because I did have it an engagement at the Hollywood bowl, 416 00:29:17.440 --> 00:29:21.599 but it still took me a good forty five minutes to fifty minutes to get 417 00:29:21.680 --> 00:29:26.440 through Um. and the museum's divided up into sections as well, such as 418 00:29:26.519 --> 00:29:33.400 modern music, modern Hollywood movie scenes, just modern Hollywood in general, Western's 419 00:29:33.480 --> 00:29:37.079 horror, Golden Globe or state, golden age of Hollywood, Marvel Comic Universe, 420 00:29:37.160 --> 00:29:42.279 and even a museum on how they create the sculptures. Even Madam Um 421 00:29:42.440 --> 00:29:45.240 is it by the way? Is it Madam or Madam? Because it doesn't 422 00:29:45.240 --> 00:29:49.400 really depends. It doesn't matter here, but even Madam who thought herself, 423 00:29:49.839 --> 00:29:56.200 is here as an impeccable wax culture so this begs the question some of you 424 00:29:56.279 --> 00:30:00.799 might be wondering, is your favorite person here in the museum? Brace yourselves, 425 00:30:00.839 --> 00:30:04.759 because I'm going to read off every single wax figure at Madame Tussaud's Hollywood, 426 00:30:06.160 --> 00:30:07.799 which will hopefully give you an idea of how big this place is and 427 00:30:07.839 --> 00:30:12.200 help you decide if you want to visit who. Crushed on her as a kid, by the way, especially 453 00:32:36.000 --> 00:32:39.599 and uh, well, let's get on. Whoopi Goldberg, Britney Spears, 454 00:32:39.920 --> 00:32:45.519 Selena, yes, that's Selena, pierce brows in as James Bond. Madame 455 00:32:45.599 --> 00:32:50.519 Murray, too, saw James Hensworth as thor, Chris Evans Captain America, 456 00:32:50.599 --> 00:32:55.480 Robert Downey Jr as stark, Samuel l Jackson as shield, director fury and, 457 00:32:55.599 --> 00:33:01.759 last but certainly not least, spider man. I came away from Madam 458 00:33:01.799 --> 00:33:07.359 Tsad's pleasantly surprised. I will always I've always kind of viewed madame two sods 459 00:33:07.359 --> 00:33:12.920 a sort of Gimmicky Um, I was expecting maybe thirty wax models, but 460 00:33:13.279 --> 00:33:15.839 I genuinely had a lot of fun here. You could certainly spend an hour 461 00:33:15.920 --> 00:33:21.440 or two here and I think it's certainly worth thirty dollar entrance fee. Um. 462 00:33:21.480 --> 00:33:23.359 There is a few up cells here. They have like a marvel and 463 00:33:23.519 --> 00:33:29.319 four D movie. They have some virtual reality stuff they do, but for 464 00:33:29.400 --> 00:33:35.359 me just walking through and taking a tour was was enough for me. Um, 465 00:33:35.480 --> 00:33:37.519 for Um. There's one thing you can do free here, though, 466 00:33:37.519 --> 00:33:40.720 without the up cell. Um. There's actually a kind of a cool little 467 00:33:42.160 --> 00:33:46.559 Jimmy kibble interactive exhibit, Um, and basically what you do is you come 468 00:33:46.559 --> 00:33:52.680 into this room, you sit down and, Um, there's a green screen 469 00:33:52.680 --> 00:33:55.200 behind you. Jimmy Kimmel will actually ask you questions on the screen in front 470 00:33:55.200 --> 00:33:59.759 of you and you'll answer in real time, such as who is the most 471 00:34:00.079 --> 00:34:04.440 rated celebrity in Hollywood. After you're done, you will walk around the corner 472 00:34:04.519 --> 00:34:07.599 and watch your interview, which is done live on the streets of Hollywood, 473 00:34:07.000 --> 00:34:09.880 uh, the Hollywood walk of fame. Then you could save it and send 474 00:34:09.880 --> 00:34:15.360 your live interview right to your shock friends or family members. Um, the 475 00:34:15.360 --> 00:34:17.840 Wax Museum was Pretty Cool, folks. I do recommend it. Um, 476 00:34:17.880 --> 00:34:21.960 I'll have to come back down try the Hollywood Wax Museum. I Know Madam 477 00:34:22.000 --> 00:34:25.920 tussauds was pretty excellent. Um, so I give it a thumbs up. 478 00:34:27.800 --> 00:34:31.679 Parking. If you come down here, there is some very, very limited 479 00:34:31.679 --> 00:34:35.199 parking along on the Hollywood walk of fame, but if you want to be 480 00:34:35.239 --> 00:34:37.639 realistic and you are driving a car here, you are going to have to 481 00:34:37.639 --> 00:34:42.280 find a parking lot or a garage. Most of the Hollywood walk of fame 482 00:34:42.320 --> 00:34:45.199 is either a red zone or a white passenger loading zone. That basically most 483 00:34:45.199 --> 00:34:50.480 of the tour guides use. So prices will vary depending on what events are 484 00:34:50.519 --> 00:34:52.119 occurring locally in the day of the week, you know, as usual. 485 00:34:52.440 --> 00:34:57.039 But the parking lot I suggest to you is the Mosaic Church on the corner 486 00:34:57.039 --> 00:35:00.519 of Libre and Hollywood Boulevard. During the week when there is no church services, 487 00:35:00.639 --> 00:35:05.639 they open up their lot to the public and when you arrive you can 488 00:35:05.639 --> 00:35:08.000 either scan a Qr code and pay for a parking or you can pre purchase 489 00:35:08.039 --> 00:35:12.440 your parking pass on a phone map, the APP. I personally use a 490 00:35:12.519 --> 00:35:15.199 spot here. Again, not a not a not a sponsor, but I'm 491 00:35:15.199 --> 00:35:19.199 just giving you the right info here. Um, it's just a nice or 492 00:35:19.239 --> 00:35:22.039 the best info. I know. It's just a nice way to plan a 493 00:35:22.039 --> 00:35:24.920 trip. Really, you do it at home, you arrive prepaid for, 494 00:35:24.960 --> 00:35:30.920 prepaid for parking already and forget about it rather than struggle or stress about basically, 495 00:35:30.199 --> 00:35:32.960 you know when and where you're gonna Park and if the lot even has 496 00:35:34.000 --> 00:35:39.320 space. Parking at the Mosaic Church was only eleven dollars for twenty four hours 497 00:35:39.400 --> 00:35:45.599 on a Friday, which is virtually unheard of anywhere, much less L A. 498 00:35:45.159 --> 00:35:50.440 and it's directly across the street from the Hollywood walk of fame. So 499 00:35:50.480 --> 00:35:52.719 I'm not a member of this church, not, not a sponsor. A 500 00:35:52.800 --> 00:35:55.000 church is on a sponsor here either. But Um, eleven bucks for twenty 501 00:35:55.000 --> 00:35:58.440 four hours on a Friday, right across from the Hollywood walk of fame. 502 00:35:59.039 --> 00:36:05.119 You know, it's an amazing deal, all right, safety and security. 503 00:36:06.320 --> 00:36:08.280 There is more than a few things to note in this category that I want 504 00:36:08.280 --> 00:36:10.760 to go over here, um, because I just want you guys to be 505 00:36:10.800 --> 00:36:15.960 aware and of your surroundings and be aware of of what this place is really 506 00:36:15.000 --> 00:36:22.440 like, what this Hollywood walk of fames like? Um, first and foremost, 507 00:36:22.880 --> 00:36:25.119 there are a decent number of vagrants that will either be working or sleeping 508 00:36:25.119 --> 00:36:30.639 on the boulevard sidewalk. You will see vagrants that are completely sprawled out and 509 00:36:30.719 --> 00:36:34.800 passed out over the sidewalk from drug drug usage, next to famous stars like 510 00:36:34.800 --> 00:36:38.960 Susan Sarandon or Mel Gibson. I'll actually include a few photos of that from 511 00:36:38.960 --> 00:36:44.400 my travelogue. Um, because, folks, I'm not here to paint a 512 00:36:44.400 --> 00:36:47.320 pretty picture, you know, seeing all around of what southern California is. 513 00:36:47.760 --> 00:36:51.599 I'm simply here to give you the truth and let you decide for yourself. 514 00:36:52.719 --> 00:36:55.719 Um. So check the travelogue and I'll post some of these tragic cases on 515 00:36:55.760 --> 00:36:59.519 there one day, and socil dot com one day, and social dot com. 516 00:37:00.280 --> 00:37:01.599 Uh. Some of these vagrants are gonna be asking for money, or 517 00:37:01.639 --> 00:37:06.320 will be or we'll be performing for money. Some might be more aggressive about 518 00:37:06.360 --> 00:37:08.679 it than others. Um, there have been incidents on the walk of fame. 519 00:37:09.280 --> 00:37:13.840 Um, I'll let you look up those if you if you if you 520 00:37:13.880 --> 00:37:17.599 still waste too and but the fact of the matter is my honest suggestion is 521 00:37:17.639 --> 00:37:22.199 to ignore them and keep moving. Um. On my trip to the holiday 522 00:37:22.199 --> 00:37:27.119 walk of fame I also saw a drug dealer. Now by drugs I mean 523 00:37:27.199 --> 00:37:30.039 marijuana, but nonetheless, the shady character was hiding behind two pillars out of 524 00:37:30.039 --> 00:37:35.039 building and peddling marijuana illegally to anyone that wanted to buy, while keeping a 525 00:37:35.039 --> 00:37:38.599 lookout for police. Um, they're gonna find a lot of unofficial merchants here 526 00:37:38.599 --> 00:37:42.679 too, that is, those selling street food without a health department license or 527 00:37:42.719 --> 00:37:45.519 inspection, those selling souvenirs and a makeshift stand, or those offering tours in 528 00:37:45.559 --> 00:37:50.840 their private car. You know, uh, one guy saw, which isn't 529 00:37:50.840 --> 00:37:53.079 a bad idea to be perfectly honest, was using a blank star that wasn't 530 00:37:53.119 --> 00:37:57.719 completed yet as a template to add your name to it for a cool serving 531 00:37:57.800 --> 00:38:01.159 souvenir photo. He even painted gold the the words and he could change the 532 00:38:01.760 --> 00:38:07.320 emblem and it was pretty neat. Um. And I get these folks are 533 00:38:07.320 --> 00:38:10.199 really you know, they're trying to survive. Los Angeles and California in general 534 00:38:10.280 --> 00:38:14.280 is a tough place to survive sometimes, you know, especially you're on the 535 00:38:14.320 --> 00:38:20.599 lower end of the the spectrum there. But my advice personally is don't stay 536 00:38:20.599 --> 00:38:24.199 away, don't partake, you know, as the bartender said, doc Browning, 537 00:38:24.239 --> 00:38:28.280 back to the future, part three, when doc asked for whiskey. 538 00:38:28.320 --> 00:38:31.000 Okay, I ain't your Papa. I just don't want to say you do 539 00:38:31.079 --> 00:38:36.159 the wrong thing. Well, you are, doc and I'm the bartender, 540 00:38:36.559 --> 00:38:39.400 bartender chester was his name. I don't want to see you get defrauded or 541 00:38:39.440 --> 00:38:45.079 hurt anywhere in southern California and the risk, however minor, is present and 542 00:38:45.119 --> 00:38:49.239 there are are a few things you can do to stay safe, which includes, 543 00:38:49.559 --> 00:38:53.880 you know, going to eating at restaurants that actually are licensed by the 544 00:38:53.880 --> 00:39:00.360 Health Department and, uh, you know, not giving money to vagrance or 545 00:39:00.599 --> 00:39:05.559 engaging them. Um, there's a whole army of people here that that helped 546 00:39:05.599 --> 00:39:08.639 they vagrancy and and try to do what they can for them. You're on 547 00:39:08.719 --> 00:39:12.760 vacation, enjoy yourself. If you do want to give money to these folks, 548 00:39:12.800 --> 00:39:15.440 you know, or food, by all means, but my personal suggestion 549 00:39:15.599 --> 00:39:22.039 is move on Um. Regarding vagrance, don't make eye contact, don't talk 550 00:39:22.039 --> 00:39:25.039 to them. In my personal opinion, and L A P D has a 551 00:39:25.119 --> 00:39:30.760 very minded presence here, mostly observing everything through cameras or undercover officers. So 552 00:39:30.960 --> 00:39:34.559 some individuals now feel pretty emboldened, you know, those that are up to 553 00:39:34.599 --> 00:39:37.480 no good are out there acting on the Hollywood walk of fame now. So, 554 00:39:37.800 --> 00:39:42.880 but you'll be safe. There is police presence, is just around the 555 00:39:42.880 --> 00:39:46.199 corner and there's a ton of tourists here. Um, you know, there's 556 00:39:46.199 --> 00:39:49.639 that safety and numbers kind of thing. You got, you'll you'll be fine 557 00:39:49.679 --> 00:39:54.480 here. There's there is vagrance, but they mostly stick for themselves and unfortunately 558 00:39:54.559 --> 00:39:59.599 it is kind of sad to see, especially the one I saw the other 559 00:39:59.639 --> 00:40:04.199 day or, you know, just basically like slumped up against the wall. 560 00:40:04.199 --> 00:40:07.280 You know, Um, I'll post those photos on the website if you want 561 00:40:07.280 --> 00:40:12.079 to see him. Conclusion here. Anyone coming to L A as a tourist 562 00:40:12.119 --> 00:40:15.480 should do the walk of fame at least once. It's a pretty cool experience. 563 00:40:15.519 --> 00:40:19.559 We all have folks we admire and entertainment to one degree or another, 564 00:40:20.199 --> 00:40:22.719 and it's it's really fun to go around and search for their star Um, 565 00:40:22.840 --> 00:40:27.679 or find a name you didn't know about and look them up on Google real 566 00:40:27.760 --> 00:40:30.079 quick. Um, there's enough to do here where you could easily spend half 567 00:40:30.079 --> 00:40:34.159 a day or so over your trip. Things are usually less busy in the 568 00:40:34.159 --> 00:40:36.760 morning and pick up in the afternoon evening, especially in the summer on the 569 00:40:36.840 --> 00:40:40.599 weekends. So, UM, definitely worth a visit if you want to. 570 00:40:40.679 --> 00:40:44.440 If you're coming down to Hollywood doing the Hollywood thing, you're in Hollywood, 571 00:40:44.480 --> 00:40:47.280 you know.
